The project was part of the $220 million redevelopments in constructing new specialist buildings and upgrades at the Special Air Service Regiment’s Swanbourne base after being labelled outdated and in need of replacement. Due to the nature of the site, it was of the utmost importance to maintain high-security procedures. All contractors needed high-security clearances, and to follow strict standards and protocols at all times.

The works included the construction of new accommodation blocks, as many of the buildings were established in the late 1950’s and were no longer meeting current fire codes. The project spanned a total of 16 months, totalling over 20000 linear metres of joint sealing. Throughout the project, BUSS was required to undertake various concrete repairs, concrete patching, grouting, panel joint sealing, expansion joint sealing, penetration sealing, fireproofing and waterproofing. The elevated working platform (EWP) was required for the majority of the panel jointing components. The majority of the joint sealing was conducted using Bostik Seal ‘N’ Flex 1 a low modulus, Class-A polyurethane sealant. It is ideal for panel jointing as it forms a tough and flexible seal which is unaffected by normal weathering conditions. Bostik Seal ‘N’ Flex 1 retains its original properties even after years of weather and UV exposure, making it ideal for the requirements at Campbell Barracks.

The project was very unusual, as it was not a typical building site, therefore, a lot improvisation was needed with exceptional site coordination of the panel jointing to fit in within the builders time frames, forcing BUSS to be adaptive.
