Iona Presentation College

Excavation work underway

Description

The Iona Presentation College, founded in 1907 by the Presentation Sisters of Ireland, is an independent day school catering to approximately 1200 students. In 2017, the iconic Nagel Hall at the college was subjected to water ingress issues to the wall area adjacent to the garden bed. BUSS’ services were retained to provide the necessary repairs and to implement a long-term solution to the water ingress issues.

BUSS removed and relocated the existing trees/plants from the garden bed and mechanically excavated the underside of the concrete slab to remove the damp soil from against the wall where the water was penetrating through to the structure. Following excavation, a topping was applied to the wall to allow for a smoother finish and to better bond the double-layer Allduro torch-on waterproofing membrane system which was then applied. To reduce the risk of future water ingress issues a new drainage cell system was installed; this will direct stormwater away from the structure. At project completion garden the bed was reinstated with soil and trees/plants as required.
