CONCRETE REPAIRS
PROTECTIVE COATINGS
Reinforced concrete is a composite substance and its structural performance is realised when the concrete and steel reinforcement work in unison during the structures service life. The structures steel protects the concrete from cracking under tensile loads and the structures concrete protects the steel from corrosion by providing an alkaline environment.
Hostile environmental substances like water, gases and biological organisms are transferred from the atmosphere into the concrete and steel of the structure leading to the untimely deterioration of the reinforced concrete, a testing of its durability and resulting in premature failure of the structure.
Applying a protective surface coating to the concrete provides a physical shield which isolates the concrete from its immediate environment, consequently conserving its structural integrity and contributing to the aesthetic appearance of the structure. In order to achieve these functions, the coatings must have the following attributes:
- Resistant to the alkaline of the concrete
- Resistant to CO², sulphate and chlorides
- Good adhesion to the surface to be coated
- Weather resistance
- Resistant to fungi, algae and moss
- Breathability to avoid blistering
- UV resistant
- Low vulnerability to staining
Using only high-quality fit for purpose coating solutions, BUSS’ experienced applicators will ensure your concrete and steel assets are protected from corrosion.
