HBF Park 1 repairs external brickwork

HBF Park, formerly known as Perth Oval and located close to Perth’s CBD, is a sports stadium which hosts sporting events as well as concerts. The stadium has a maximum capacity of 21,000 people for sporting events and up to 34,000 people for concerts.

The external bricks and mortar were fretting, cracking and visibly loose on the western stand external brick wall. VenueWest put the repair works out to tender so that a suitable contractor could be appointed to complete the restoration works and prevent any further deterioration. In September 2021, BUSS was successful in award of the tender to complete the repair works.

The work scope included the following:
• Installation of Helfix ties to the cracks that were evident in the brick walls;
• Re-point and re-paint the brick to match the existing, including the brick faces of the player tunnels leading from the field of play and the brick faces of the
ambulance race down to the field;
• Repair to concrete toppings; and
• Reinstatement of the corroded/delaminated cast
in steel stubs, removal of the brickwork as required and rebuild.
